Father's House Kingdom Ministry

CounsellingWhat is counselling?

Counselling provides a regular time and space within the Ministry for people to discuss about their troubles and explore difficult feelings in an environment that is dependable, free from intrusion and confidential. A counsellor should respect your viewpoint while helping you to deal with specific problems, cope with crises, improve your relationships, or develop better ways of living. Counselling is a carefully arranged opportunity for people to talk through issues that are affecting their life.

The word ‘counselling’ covers a broad spectrum, from someone who is highly trained to someone who uses counselling skills (listening, encouraging, practical help, and prayer, reflecting back what you say, or clarifying) also can be link to part of another role, such as pastoral care.

How can counselling help?

You may come to counselling because of difficult experiences you’ve been going through, such as a relationship breakdown, bereavement or redundancy. Or you may want help dealing with feelings of sadness, depression, anxiety or low self-worth that doesn’t seem to be connected to any particular event our Ministry is here to assist.

What are counselling skills?

The counsellor’s job is to help the other person, the client, to help him or her self. Counselling skills help people to change as they learn to think things through for themselves and make their own decisions, free of the effects of past conditioning.  If the client is to feel safe enough to be open about her or his thoughts and feelings, he or she needs to feel safe, respected and understood.
